![]() ![]() It enabled us to deliver something we were truly confident in. It provided us with a phenomenally accurate visual representation of the content we were making. But the new Pro Display XDR gave us an ability that we previously didn’t have in the studio. When using the new Apple hardware to create the Jumanji project, the Mac Pro helped us to avoid a few technical difficulties and do all aspects faster. The only other option would be to render the whole thing out, but we were sending updates daily, so this wasn’t an option. This became more of an issue for us when sending the client updates to approve. However this is fine for working with the scene, but because clamping the textures is across the entire scene it meant that our 8K Jumanji map became a much lower resolution. Sure enough, we can clamp the resolution of the textures in the scene and the problem goes away. One constant issue we would run into if working on the iMac Pro is this all too familiar error, illustrated in the video on the right. One of the immediate things we noticed as soon as we began the animation stage on an iMac Pro, is that we were struggling to get all of the assets into a scene with all of their high resolution texture maps without running out of Graphics RAM. ![]() When compared with Astropad Studio, which is nearly 3x as expensive, it becomes clear that you really are getting more for less with Duet. Not only is two minutes a long time, but 28 high resolution photorealistic objects - each with a lot of high resolution textures and geometry - can start to cause issues. This means you can work with the mobility of a laptop or tablet but with the power of a desktop. On the other hand, Duet allows you to connect any device from anywhere in the world. Remote Desktop: Luna Display is limited to use within a short range of each other. On the other hand, Luna Display often degrades its image quality to keep up with Duet, and creates an often criticized pixellated stream that makes it much harder to work effectively. Resolution: Duet can power up to 4K screens in real-time. In comparison, Luna Display can sometimes experience lag and stuttering, particularly when using a high-resolution display. In our tests, we found that Duet offered smooth and lag-free screen sharing, even when using multiple displays. Ultra Low Latency: Another advantage of Duet is that it has better performance than Luna Display. This makes it more complex and expensive to set up, as well as error-prone as it won't function at all without their hardware. However, Luna Display requires a hardware dongle in addition to their custom software. Setup: Duet works entirely in software, and just requires you to install their client apps from their website here. This means that regardless of what type of computer you're using, you can connect them together with Duet. While Luna Display only works with Macs and iPads, Duet can be used with any combination of Mac, Windows, iPads, iPhones, and Android devices. Cross Platform Support: First and foremost, Duet is more versatile than Luna Display. ![]()
